Okoboji/HMS notched two dual wins as the Pioneers hosted Central Lyon/George-Little Rock and West Lyon in a triangular held December 14 at Milford. The host team topped the Lions 48-24 and bested West Lyon 63-18.
HMS wrestlers in competition were Nathan Stofferan, James Gellerman, Ethan Wiersma, Bryce Ortega and Aidan Espeland.
At 113 pounds Stofferan pinned the Lions’ Paytan Kock in 38 seconds and won by forfeit in the West Lyon dual. It was a successful night as well for Gellerman, who produced similar results in his pair of matches. The 175-pounder won by fall over Michelet Sedam of Central Lyon/George-Little Rock in 1:49 and pinned the Wildcats’ Jackson VerMeer in 1:44.
Both Ethan Wiersma at 215 pounds and Bryce Ortega at 285 won by forfeit against West Lyon. In the dual with the Lions Wiersma lost by fall to Trevor Dieren in 3:56 and Ortega lost a 3-0 decision to Sam Christensen. Espeland wrestled a match against Central Lyon/George-Little Rock that did not count in the standings. He lost by fall to Josh Jager in 49 seconds.
