The Okoboji/HMS took part in the Spencer Girls Wrestling Invitational held December 9 at Spencer. The Pioneers placed fifth in the 12-team field, scoring 118 points. The host Tigers won the meet with a 197 total.
HMS student Miley Appeldorn wrestled at 125 pounds and finished in sixth place. She received a bye into the quarterfinals where she pinned Michelle Burley of South Central Calhoun in 38 seconds. She them lost twice by fall, to Spencer’s Breanna Johnson in 1:37 and to Moriah Reineke of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire in 2:52. Appeldorn forfeited the 5th Place Match to Adriana Gutierrez of MOC-Floyd Valley.
Madi Lauer, another HMS student, competed at 120 pounds. In round one she was pinned by GTRA’s Zoey Higgins in 1:36. Lauer then received a bye into round two of the consolations where her day ended after she was pinned in 1:35 by Emma Bockelman of Canton, SD.
