Tigers down HMS in 11-8 slugfest
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn and Trinity Christian traded big innings May 29 at Hull but, in the end, it was the host Tigers who came away with the 11-8 victory. Trinity scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead 9-3 but the Hawks came back with five in the fifth. The Tigers tacked on insurance runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.
HMS banged out a season-high 14 hits. Jacob Cates contributed three singles and a double and scored a run. There was also a double among Blake Meendering’s three hits. He also stole three bases and scored a pair of runs. Grant Kunzman registered two hits and scored a run.
Ricky Smith, Dominic Tripp and Hunter Daggett each had a hit and two runs batted in. Smith scored a run as well. Brody Meendering hit a double, drove in a run and scored twice. Aidan Espeland singled and scored.
Tripp got the starting pitcher nod and surrendered nine earned runs on six hits. His 3-2/3 innings of work also included four walks, two strikeouts and three hit batters. Grant Kunzman tossed the final 2-1/3 innings in relief. He allowed two earned runs on five hits. He struck out four Tiger batters. Again there was just one HMS error.
