Offense improves but Hawk girls still lose to MMCRU
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn displayed improved shooting and scoring in a non-conference game with MMCRU. Still, 31 turnovers and a potent MMCRU offense spelled an 81-44 defeat for the Hawk girls February 2 at Marcus.
HMS came up with 19 field goals on 41 attempts for 46 percent. The Royals shot 58 percent, going 30-of-52 from the floor. They were on fire from three-point range, draining 11 of their 23 trey attempts. The Hawks were 1-of-4 from beyond the arc and 5-of-12 from the free throw line. The Royals sank 10 of their 17 charity tosses.
MMCRU came up with 17 steals as the HMS turned the ball over 31 times. The Hawks made eight steals of their own with three coming from Lydia Harders and two from both Jasmine Lux and Emily Mutombo. The Royals were guilty of 13 turnovers.
Lux topped HMS with 12 points, followed by Harders with 10, Elise Haack with five, Taya Mason, Olivia Grooters and Emily Otto with four apiece, Darby Mastbergen with three and Mutombo with two. The rebound totals were nearly equal with MMCRU grabbing 23 and the Hawks 22. Leading rebounders for HMS were Lux with six and Harders with five.
