Sibley-Ocheyedan wins non-conference tilt with Hawk girls
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn’s girls traveled to Sibley February 4 to meet Sibley-Ocheyedan. The hosts from the Siouxland Conference picked up their sixteenth win of the season by downing the Hawks 70-51.
The combatants hoisted a similar number of shots but the results were different. The Generals were successful on 25 of their 60 shots for 42 percent. Meanwhile, 17 of the 61 HMS shots found the mark, resulting in 28 percent shooting. A number of Sibley-Ocheyedan’s misses came from three-point range where the Generals were just 9-of-27. The Hawks attempted only nine treys but hit on six of them. The teams were frequent visitors to the free throw line where HMS was 11-of-21 and the Generals 11-of-19.
The Hawks got 16 points from Lydia Harders, 12 from Jasmine Lux, seven from Darby Mastbergen, six from Taya Mason, four from both Olivia Grooters and Elise Haack and two from Emily Otto. Harders and Haack each had an assist.
Each team came down with 35 rebounds. The HMS leaders were Harders with eight boards and Lux and Grooters with six apiece. Lux and Harders each came away with a pair of steals. The Hawks committed 19 turnovers compared to 14 for Sibley-Ocheyedan.
