Hawk boys host golf sectional but are unable to advance
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn hosted the Class 1A Sectional Golf Tournament May 14 at Sanborn Golf & Country Club. HMS did not score low enough to advance to the District level. The Hawks’ score of 382 left them sixth among the seven teams contending.
Moving on the the District Tourney May 21 at Fort Dodge are Harris-Lake Park with a 315 total and West Bend-Mallard with a 365 score. Also advancing as individuals are Trinity Christian’s Alec DeBoer and George-Little Rock’s Gannon Rockman.
“It was unfortunate to end the season the way we did,” remarked Hawk coach Mark Japenga. “The kids worked hard today, but we put ourselves in too much trouble. Our Seniors Ben Haack and Sam Heyn did a nice job for us this year and they will be missed. We look forward to next year and getting better throughout the year.”
Heyn’s round of 90 over the 18 holes was 10th best on the day. In 15th place was Haack with a 94. One spot behind was Wyatt Borden after shooting a 95.
