Hawk golf girls place ninth at WEC Tourney
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn finished in ninth place as the War Eagle Conference girls congregated in Sioux Center May 11 to play 18 holes at the The Ridge Golf Club. HMS compiled a 484 score. Unity Christian is conference champion with a 395 total.
“Overall I was very pleased with the girls’ play at The Ridge,” said HMS head coach Cheryl Kroese. “The greens were a challenge for us as we haven’t played on any that fast this season. The faster greens will help us prepare for regionals on Monday as I expect the same on the Primghar course.”
Elle Mastbergen shot the Hawks’ low 18-hole total of 113. Darby Mastbergen was next low with a 117.
The first nine holes of the scorecards were used to determine the winner of an HMS dual that the Hawks did not get to play against Akron-Westfield. The Westerners took that matchup 204-229. Elle Mastbergen was the fourth place medalist with a 55. HMS finishes with a 1-8 conference dual record.
Golfers earned points throughout the War Eagle Conference season with the top 10 being named first team all-conference and the next 10 second team. The Hawks’ Elise Haack just missed, placing 22nd in the standings.
