Hawks blanked by Gehlen Catholic
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn could muster just one hit as the Hawks lost 6-0 to Gehlen Catholic. The War Eagle Conference contest was played June 4 at Granville.
Keaton Graves recorded the lone HMS hit but seven other times a Hawk batter reached base. Graves was also hit by a pitch, as was Jordan Ortega. Drawing walks were Ortega, Dawson Schiphoff, Nick Bronstad and Keith DeBoer. Bronstad also got on board by way of an error.
Through three innings Ben Haack was matching his Gehlen mound conterpart in putting zeroes in the scoreboard. The Jays finally broke through with a run in the fourth. They followed with three more in the fifth and two on the sixth. Haack went five plus innings and yielded all six runs on four hits. Just one of the runs was earned. Haack struck out six and walked two but he did hit five batters. Schiphoff came on in relief and allowed one hit while striking out one. The Hawks committed an even half-dozen errors in the game.
