Chamber Director steps down after more than four years on the job

Citing the need to devote more time to other matters, Sally Smith has stepped down from her role as Sanborn Chamber Director.
“I gave my resignation a couple weeks before Railroad Days, stating I would wrap up the celebration and give my reports at the August Meeting on the 11th and then step back,” noted Smith. “I will, however, train the new director when they fill the position.” Smith has held the position since February of 2017.
Her initial one word response to the question of what went into her decision to step down was “Time.” She went on to explain, “I just don’t have the time anymore. My children’s activities use to always fall on Saturdays and now I find myself running a lot more during the week.”
Smith said her responsibilities as Chamber Director included being the main point of contact for Board members and Chamber members. The position also involved updating social media and the Chamber website, managing all incoming and outgoing emails and organizing annual events.
The outgoing Chamber Director shared that the most enjoyment she received from the position was the relationships that have been created, whether it be with a former or current board member, chamber members, business owners or her regular vendor fair attendees. Said Smith, “Any interaction I had with them I’ve enjoyed and if it weren’t for my time with the Chamber there is a very good chance those relationships wouldn’t have formed.”
As with any job, there were also challenges. “The only challenging parts were deadlines,” revealed Smith. “And with my schedule picking up I had many late nights and early mornings which worried me that I’d miss something or mistakes would be made. All in all I think I handled the juggling well but time to hang it up.”
So, does Smith have plans for the hours this resignation will free up for her? “Just being a Mom!” she exclaimed. “Peace of mind knowing that while we’re eating supper I’m not going to be thinking of all of the work that’s waiting for me to finish once the kids go to bed.”
