Serious damage avoided in Sanborn corn stalk fire


On Tuesday, November 23 the Sanborn Fire Department was paged at 2:22 p.m. for a corn stalk field fire north of the City tree dump which is located south of town. When firefighters arrived on the scene they found that a leaf pile at the dump was started on fire. With the south wind blowing it blew into the corn stocks in the adjacent field and was burning north with the wind. About 20 acres of corn stalks burned. No injuries or damage other then the corn stalks was reported.
A total of six firefighters responded to the call with four units taken to the scene. They were there for about two hours.
