Okoboji/HMS wrestled in a pair of competitive duals as part of a double dual event held December 16 at Rock Rapids. Unfortunately, the Pioneers came out on the short end of the deal, losing to West Lyon 39-35 and falling 38-37 to host Central Lyon/George-Little Rock. The latter dual was decided on tiebreaking Criteria E, awarding the Lions the winning point. The third dual was also close as the Wildcats defeated Central Lyon/G-LR 37-37.
James Gellerman and Nick Bronstad were involved in both of the varsity duals. At 182 pounds Gellerman pinned Central Lyon/G-LR’s Gable Van Beek in 2:57 and won by forfeit against the Wildcats. Bronstad won his match versus the Lions heavyweight Jac Van Wyhe by fall in 3:59. He suffered a 3-0 loss to to West Lyon’s Easton Fleshman.
Jack Mastbergen split a pair of 126-pound exhibition matches. He pinned Jashaun Borman of Central Lyon/G-LR in 4:40 and lost by fall to West Lyon’s Korey Moser in 3:02. Bryce Dodge won his 160-pound exhibition match over Matthew Everhart, pinning the Central Lyon/George-Little Rock wrestler in 1:54.
