Chamber’s Annual Meeting Includes Discussion On How To Better Serve Members

The Sanborn Chamber of Commerce held it’s annual meeting January 13 at Sanborn Community Center. A social hour preceded the meeting from 5 p.m. with the meeting beginning at 5:30 p.m., giving the attendeed time to enjoy the ample supply of delicious hors d’oeurves provided by Rails.
The meeting didn’t have a high attendance. Board Members present were Mackenzie Jenness, Connie Alberts, Denny Postma, and Brian Nash. Board Members missing were Laura Lux, Wendy Nelson, Stacy Carlin, and Caresa Carney. Many of the members were out sick. Vice President Denny Postma welcomed all in attendance calling the meeting to order at 5:35 p.m.
Denny Postma explained that our Chamber President, Laura Lux, was unable to attend the meeting due to illness. He also announced that Jennifer Van Dam has accepted the position of Chamber Director.
The Annual Meeting minutes from 2021 will be reviewed and approved at our next scheduled board meeting on February 9, 2022.
Connie Alberts presented the financial report that was prepared by Stacy Carlin to all in attendance. Mackenzie Jenness made a motion to approve and Connie Alberts second the motion to approve the 2021 Treasurer’s Report. Stacy Andringa and Amber Jederberg have been elected to take the two open board positions. Laura’s one year term as President has expired. Denny has elected Laura to another term as President. These motions will be voted on at our next scheduled Board meeting on February 9, 2022.
Denny Postma presented a recap of the Chamber’s activities and accomplishments for 2021 and discussed the Annual Events that were held throughout the year. Denny spoke “We had another successful Railroad Days and Commercial Chaos for the Cure.” The only complaint for Railroad Days was the firework were high enough.
Denny Postma discussed the challenges ran into as a chamber in a small community and our goals for improving moving forward. It’s important that we get back to our main focus which is promoting our members/community/businesses. A discussion was had about how we can focus on better serving our members. We hope to add more value and benefit to our members over the coming year.
HMS Superintendent Patrick Carlin discussed the completion of the Elementary and Middle School Building projects as well as the changes to curriculum over the last year. He also discussed some of the projects and goals to come.
NCC Chief Financial Officer Brian Nash discussed some of the completed and ongoing building and remodeling projects that have been going on at Northwest Iowa Community College. He also gave a recap of the ongoing efforts of the school to provide more programs and opportunities for students, businesses, and the communities it serves and the many grants they have recevied..
City of Sanborn Administrator Jim Zeutenhorst gave a recap of the many projects going on for the city of Sanborn as well as explained some of the potential projects to come.
Mackenzie Jenness made a motion to adjourn and Connie Alberts second the motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:30 p.m.
