Hinton pulls away from Hawk boys
After trailing by three points at the end of the first quarter, Hinton began to take control and went on to defeat Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 62-39 in a War Eagle Conference game played January 28 at Hartley. A particularly rough segment for the Hawks was the third quarter where they were outscored 17-4.
HMS was 13-of-34 from the floor for 38 percent. The Hawks were 2-of-16 from three-point range and 11-of-18 at the free throw line. Hinton shot 46 percent and their 26-of-56 effort included going 3-for-15 beyond the arc. From the charity stripe the Blackhawks were 7-of-11.
Lance Berends led the Hawks in scoring with 22 points. Kooper Ebel added eight points Keevyn Jacobsma five and Wyatt Borden and Ethan Diehm two each. Ebel and Travis Kamradt each had two assists. Caleb Holmes went off for the Blackhawks to the tune of 32 points.
HMS rebound leaders were Berends with 11, Ebel with six and Jacobsma with four. Berends also blocked three shots and recorded the team’s lone steal. Hinton was very possessive of the ball, turning it over only three times. The Hawks were guilty of 12 turnovers.
