Hawk boys pick up conference win over Trinity Christian
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn completed a busy week by picking up a War Eagle Conference road win. The Hawks topped Trinity Christian 45-34 February 4 at Hull to improve to 3-6 in the conference and raise their overall record to 9-11. The visitors led by one point at intermission but were able to put some space between themselves and the Tigers during the second half.
HMS shot 49 percent (17-of-35) and held the Tigers to 23 percent shooting (10-of-44). There were few three-point baskets, the Hawks were 1-of-10 and Trinity 3-of-18, but the teams fared better at the free throw line where the Tigers sank 11 of 12 and HMS 10 of 15.
The Hawks got 15 points from Lance Berends, 13 from Kooper Ebel, six from Travis Kamradt, five from Keevyn Jacobsma, four from Mason Brinkman and two from Jordan Ortega. The 11 assists included three from Ebel, two each from Brinkman, Kamradt and Trenton Vollink and one from both Jacobsma and Berends.
Top board men were Ebel with 13 and Berends with 12. Berends blocked three shots, Ebel two and Jacobsma one. Kamradt and Ebel each came away with three steals as Trinity committed seven turnover. The Hawks turned the ball over nine times.
