Host HMS boys win two events at Hawk Relays
The Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn track and field boys notched a pair of first-place finishes as they hosted the Hawk Relays April 22 at Hartley. Connor Dodd was first to cross the finish line in the 100 meters and Ethan Diehm produced the most prodigious leap in the long jump.
Those results helped HMS total 74 team points to come in fifth in the standings. Cherokee scored 111 points to finish one point ahead of runner-up Okoboji.
Bradley Zamudio placed second in the 400 meter hurdles. Two relays also finished second: the 4×200 of Ryan Borden, Diehm, Travis Kamradt and Dodd and the distance medley of Tyson Tessum, Zamudio, Kamradt and Bryce Dodge.
Third place in the 4×100 relay went to the Hawk unit of Borden, Diehm, Kamradt and Dodd. The group of Ryan Grotluschen, Justyn Vasquez-Alcantara, Alan Abonce and Aiden Jensen delivered a fourth-place finish in the 4×800.
