For the second straight week, the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn track and field boys ventured to Northwestern College in Orange City. This time it was to compete in the Unity Christian Co-ed Invitational held April 11. The Hawks were missing some athletes and so did not compete in as many events. However they did well enough in those remaining events to score 72 points and finish fourth. MOC-Floyd Valley was the boys team champ with a 182 total.
HMS captured two events, winning the 4×100 and sprint medley relays. Responsible for both of those wins were Ryan Borden, Ethan Diehm, Kooper Ebel and Connor Dodd. Ebel placed second in the 200 meters and Borden third in the 400. The 100 meters saw Dodd finish third and Borden fourth.
There was additional success in the field events. Diehm was runner-up in the long jump. Keevyn Jacobsma placed second in the discus where Adam Schierholz was sixth. Shot put results showed Schierholz in fifth-place and Jesse Garcia in eighth.
Back on the track, Bradley Zamudio finished third in the 400 meter hurdles and 6th in the 110 meter hurdles. Other sixth-place finishes were turned in by Diehm in the 800 meter run and by Justyn Vasquez-Alcantara in the 3200.
