Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn scored in enough events to collect 99 points and finish in a tie for second in the boys team race at the Wolverine Relays held May 5 at Paullina. Equaling the Hawks’ point total was host South O’Brien. Winning the team title was Unity Christian with a total of 148 points.
Ryan Borden, Ethan Diehm, Korey Ebel and Connor Dodd produced a first-place finish in the 4×200 meter relay. The sprint medley relay team of Tyson Tessum, Diehm, Dodd and Borden finished second and the distance medley relay unit of Brenton Thomas, Tessum, Travis Kamradt and Aiden Espeland placed third.
The long jump competition was won by Diehm with a leap of 21’ 1/4”. In the 100 meter dash Dodd was first and Ebel second. The 110 meter hurdles saw Bradley Zamudio place second and Ethan Wiersma sixth. Results from the discus showed Keevyn Jacobsma in second and Adam Schierholz in fourth. In the shot put Jesse Garcia was third and Jacobsma seventh. It was Espeland taking third in the 800 meters with Bryce Dodge finishing sixth. Zamudio was 4th in the 200 and 6th in the 400. Tessum placed sixth in the 200.
Of special note was the Hawks’ 4×100 meter relay entry. The relay team, consisting of distance runners George Vargas, Aiden Bush, Gavin Faulkner and Aiden Jensen placed sixth at the JV level with a time of 56.29.
