HMS girls get seventh place at War Eagle Conference Tournament
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn shot a team score of 453 to finish seventh at the War Eagle Conference Tournament held May 10 at The Ridge Golf Club in Sioux Center. Remsen St. Mary’s won the tournament with the day’s low team score of 400 over the 18 hole layout.
“Overall we had a great day at the WEC Golf Tournament,” said Hawk coach Cheryl Kroese. “I was very proud of Elise Haack and Kinsey Schirmer for placing in the top 20. Kinsey finished the day with a 107 (14th place) and Elise with a 109 (19th). Overall we finished sixth in the conference as a team. This was a nice improvement from last season.”
In the Conference Tourney Emma Schmillen shot 118, Gracie Knobloch 119, Kaley Pearson 121 and Megan Ten Kley 125.
This year Elise Haack earned First Team All-Conference honors and Kinsey Schirmer played her way onto the Second Team. Explained Kroese, “All-Conference selections in golf are different from other sports. Players gain points at each conference meet we play during the spring and then the top 24 scorers at the Conference meet earn points as well. The cumulative points determine individual All Conference places with 10 athletes making 1st Team and 10 making 2nd Team.”
