MMCRU rallies past Hawk boys
MMCRU took the lead away from Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn with a five-run fifth and came away with 6-3 baseball win over the Hawks May 26 at Hartley. HMS had assumed a 3-1 advantage with a pair of runs in the third.
The Hawks had just three hits on the night. Jacobs Cates, doubled, walked and drove in a run. His courtesy runner, Jack Mastbergen, scored a run. Jordan Ortega was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Trenton Vollink went 1-for-3 with a walk, a pair of stolen bases and two runs scored. Keaton Graves walked and scored. Tanner Tesch recorded an RBI.
Cates was the starter and pitcher of record. He tossed 4-2/3 innings, giving up all six runs on five hits. Only three of those runs were earned. Cates struck out seven batters, walked three and hit two. Tyson Tessum came on in relief and worked the final 2-1/3. He allowed two hits to go along with two strikeouts and two hit batters. HMS had three errors in the game.
