Hawks lose softball opener at GTRA
Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire scored seven times in the fourth inning to sew up a softball win over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn May 23 at Ruthven, The final score was 11-1 in five innings. The game was the season opener for each team.
The Hawks’ run was scored in the fifth inning. Eliza Tewes singled and advanced to third when Bailey VerHulst reached base on an error. Kinsey Schirmer then singled to drive in Tewes. Delaney Murphy had the other two HMS hits, both singles. Gracie Knobloch walked twice.
Starting pitcher Knobloch went 3-1/3 innings, allowing 11 runs, 10 of which were earned. She yielded six hits while walking five batters, striking out three and hitting two. Kamryn Ebel tossed a scoreless 2/3 of an inning, surrendering no hits but walking one batter and hitting another.
