Royals hit and run their way past HMS
MMCRU banged out 12 hits and threatened Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on the basepaths to come away with an 11-0 softball victory over the Hawks in six innings May 26 at Hartley. The Royals scored five times in the sixth to put the game away. Rainy weather had caused the contest to be postponed one day.
“Progress was made tonight,” observed Hawk head coach Stephanie Bronstad. “Abby (Kunzman) and Kamryn (Ebel) did what they needed to do on the mound. The girls started to hit the ball which was good to see. We had some hesitations with where to throw the ball and MMCRU are very good base runners. I am excited to see the progress in this team and these girls.”
Kunzman got the call as the starting pitcher and went four innings. Four of the five runs she allowed were earned. Kunzman gave up six hits and three walks, hit three batters and struck out one. Ebel’s two innings of work included six earned runs on six hits, two walks and one strikeout. The Hawks were charged with just one error.
Cadence Klein had a double and a single. Meghan Larson joined her with two hits. Gracie Knobloch slammed a first-inning triple. The other hit was a slap single by Ebel in the fifth. Knobloch and Kunzman each drew a walk.
