Hinton blanks punchless Hawks
Pitcher Jadyn Case tossed a one-hit shutout as Hinton defeated Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 12-0 June 8 at Hartley. Case struck out 11 HMS batters as the Blackhawks banged out 12 hits to claim the War Eagle Conference softball win.
“It was not a great night at home,” stated Hawk head coach Stephanie Bronstad. “Hinton hit the ball well and we couldn’t find the bats. Defensively, we played well. They found the holes and ran the bases well.”
HMS managed just five baserunners on the night. The hit came in the sixth inning as Kamryn Ebel led off with a single. She also drew a walk in the third. Abby Kunzman had led off the game by reaching base on an error. In the seventh inning Gracie Knobloch got aboard courtesy of an error. She was forced out on Meghan Larson’s ground ball to second.
Knobloch pitched the entire game. All the Hinton runs were earned. Knobloch struck out eight batters, walked nine and hit one.
