Westerners take low scoring game over HMS
Runs were at a premium as Akron-Westfield played host to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn June 6 at Akron. The Westerners ended up with a few more of them than did HMS, winning the War Eagle Conference match-up 5-1.
Akron-Westfield finished the game with just seven hits while the Hawks were limited to two. “Overall the girls played a good defensive game,” commented HMS head coach Stephanie Bronstad. “Kamryn (Ebel) pitched a great game and let her defense help her. The two errors we had cost us some runs but overall the error percentage of this team is down and I couldn’t be happier. The bats have been good but didn’t come last night when we needed them and we hit right to people. They had a great outfield and we couldn’t find the holes. Against Akron, this was one of the better games I have coached against them. I look forward to playing them at home in a few weeks.”
Ebel pitched all six innings for the Hawks. She allowed five earned runs on the seven hits while striking out six batters and walkin2g three.
Meghan Larson accounted for two of the three HMS hits with singles in the second and sixth innings. Gracie Knobloch drew three bases on balls. Her free pass in the fourth inning was followed by walks to Kinsey Schirmer and Bailey VerHelst. A single from Eliza Tewes drove in Knobloch. Schirmer also coaxed a walk in the fifth.
