Hawks blanked by West Sioux in four-inning affair
West Sioux posted crooked numbers to the scoreboard in all four innings of a 15-0 win over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn June 17 at Hawarden. The second place team in the War Eagle Conference improved to 7-1 in the loop. The Hawks’ conference record dipped to 1-7. A 10-game losing skein has lowered their season mark to 2-12.
Evan Eilers got the starting nod and yielded 11 hits and all but one of the Falcon runs in his 3-1/3 innings of work. Nine of the runs were earned. Eilers hit five batters. His strikeout and walk totals each reached two. Nick Bronstad was on the mound when the home team got the run it needed to end the game. That run was charged to him and it was earned. Bronstad hit a batter and allowed a hit. The record showed five HMS errors.
Speaking of hits, HMS recorded three of them. Trenton Vollink, Jordan Ortega and Jonny Ortiz all singled. Ortiz also coaxed a walk as did Tyson Tessum and Keith DeBoer.
