Six-run second powers Emmetsburg past Hawks
Emmetsburg overcame an early Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn lead to down the Hawks 13-5 June 14 at Hartley. HMS was up 2-1 after the first inning but the visitors from the Twin Lakes Conference scored six runs in the second and never looked back.
A pair of hits helped produce that 2-1 Hawk lead in the bottom of the first. Tanner Tesch doubled home Trenton Vollink, who had singled, and Nick Bronstad, who was hit by a pitch.
HMS didn’t get on the board again until the fifth inning. With the score reading 12-2, Tyson Tessum doubled to lead off the inning. The Hawks tallied once more in the seventh. Ortega walked and went to second on a passed ball. Tesch picked up his fourth RBI of the game when his single brought in Ortega.
