Hawks drop two at Okoboji Softball Tournament
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn traveled to Milford June 25 to play a pair of games in the Okoboji Softball Tournament. Although each game was short when it came to innings, it was a long day for the Hawks. HMS lost the opener 12-0 to Grattinger-Terril/Ruthven Ayrshire in three innings. Then the host Pioneers sent their guests packing by claiming a 15-5 win in five innings. With the losses the Hawks fell to 7-14 on the season.
GTRA 12, HMS 0
The Titans, playing as the home team, ended the game with six runs in the third inning. Their 10 hits included two doubles. GTRA also drew a half dozen walks. Gracie Knobloch struck out four Titan batters.
HMS was limited to three hits. They came off the bats of Cadence Klein, Abby Otto and Eliza Tewes.

The Pioneers spotted HMS three runs then roared back for the win. HMS committed five errors and, as in the first game, a number of pitches went all the way to the backstop. Starting pitcher Kamryn Ebel went 3-1/3 innings. She allowed 11 runs on seven hits. Ten of the runs were earned. Ebel didn’t walk any batters but she hit five. She also recorded a pair of strikouts. Kinsey Schirmer tossed the final 1-1/3. She gave up four earned runs on three hits, while also walking three batters.
Klein and Knobloch were each 2-for-3 at the plate. Klein had a double, a single and two RBI’s and Knobloch drove in one run. Each scored a run. Schirmer singled and walked, scoring two runs. Eliza Tewes stroked a two-run double. Delaney Murphy and Addison Sheeler each had one hit.
