Hawk girls are victims of Harris-Lake Park comeback
Harris-Lake Park rallied in the fourth quarter to hand Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn a 48-45 War Eagle Conference defeat January 6 at Hartley. HMS led 39-32 after three quarters but the Wolves outscored their hosts 16-6 in the final frame.
The Hawks outshot Harris-Lake Park but committed 28 turnovers and were just 2-of-9 from the foul line. From the field HMS was 20-of-53 for 38 percent, including 3-of-12 from beyond the arc. The Wolves shot 32 percent (19-of-60) and were 3-of-17 from distance. They made seven of their 17 free throw attempts and turned the ball over 15 times. HMS won the battle of the boards 41 to 25.
Abby Douma led the Hawks in scoring and rebounding with 14 points and 10 rebounds. She also made two steals and blocked two shots. Kylee Schiphoff tallied 10 points and collected five caroms. Emily Mutombo finished with eight points, eight rebounds, five steals and two assists. Gracie Knobloch contributed six points and five rebounds. Moriah Otto added four points and five boards and Frankie Mohni hit a three for her point total. Elise Haack failed to score but did give the Hawks seven rebounds and five steals.
