HMS bowlers entertain Emmetsburg, West Sioux
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn hosted Emmetsburg and West Sioux at a bowling triangular January 17 at Locomotion Lanes in Sanborn.
Emmetsburg won on the boys’ side with 2741 pins. HMS was just 13 pins in arrears with 2728. West Sioux finished with a 2325 total.
The West Sioux girls won with a 1712 pin fall. The Hawks came in at 1662. Emmetsburg had no team score as there was just one E-Hawk bowler participating.
“We appreciate the support of the fans last night and every meet!” said HMS coach Julia Meyer. “It’s always nice to see friendly faces! I’m proud of both the girls and boys teams.
The HMS boys had a small lead after the individual games but had a couple of lower score games in the Baker games in the second and third in comparison to the Emmetsburg team’s games. We were still close – just didn’t get the pin fall that we needed. HMS came back with a string of strikes and that was exciting, but fell just a bit short. The HMS girls team was only down by a few pins after the individual games against West Sioux. They didn’t get the momentum going and also fell short in the Baker games. We’re still learning and striving for consistency and winning more!”
Dawson Niichel bowled the high game in the triangular with a 236. Jack Mastbergen rolled a 234 game. Niichel’s two-game total of 423 was high for the Hawks. Other totals were 405 for Mastbergen, 355 for Marcus Aaron, 348 for Riley Russell, 291 for Caleb Aaron and 289 for Drew Prins. Their Baker games were 180, 152, 148, 225 and 201 for a 906 total. Emmetsburg had a Baker games total of 990 and West Sioux totaled 734.
The top two-game total for the HMS girls was turned in by Jordan Lux who bowled a 260. Next were Destiny Olvera with a 249, Meghan Larson with a 221, Annika Overmire with a 213, Lexi Croatt with a 207 and Keyanna Brower with a 190.
