Okoboji/HMS played host to three teams in a quadrangular held January 10 at Milford. The Pioneers defeated Minnesota’s Blue Earth Area 51-27 and lost to Algona 50-24. Okoboji/HMS and Estherville Lincoln Central were tied 39-39 at the completion of their dual. The Midgets were awarded the 40-39 win based on criteria (forfeits).
At 152 pounds Bryce Dodge won by fall over Algona’s Ian Fehr in 2:29. James Gellerman lost his 170-pound match by fall to the Bulldogs’ Dane Kitzinger in 2:46. Ethan Wiersma dropped an 8-3 decision to Algona’s Gavin Goche at 195 pounds.
Wrestling extra matches against the Bulldogs were William Barbiere who lost by fall to Caden Roethler, Camden Ball who was pinned by Cody Harms and Jackson Brower who lost by fall to William Weichert.
In the victory over Blue Earth Area, Wiersma pinned John Lappe in 39 seconds. Dodge won by forfeit, as did Gellerman at 182 pounds.
Dodge and Wiersma both won by fall in the dual with ELC. Dodge pinned Warren Duitsman in 1:03 and Wiersma’s pinning of Aiden Deim was accomplished in 3:51. Wrestling at 182 pounds, Gellerman lost by fall to Morgan Dalen in 3:49. In an extra match at 106 pounds, Jafet Ortiz was pinned by Clayton Burton in 3:41.
