West Sioux duo lead Falcons past Hawk girls
Mia Danielson and Addi Dekkers combined to score 43 points as West Sioux defeated Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 66-45 January 20 at Hartley. The Falcons turned in a strong first half and led 39-16 at intermission. The loss dropped the Hawks to 0-6 in the War Eagle Conference and to 1-11 overall.
The Hawks were led in scoring by freshman Moriah Otto. She tallied 17 points and grabbed six rebounds. Abby Douma added eight points and an equal number of boards to go along with five steals and three blocks. Emily Mutombo also pulled down eight rebounds to accompany her seven points and two steals. Kylee Schiphoff scored five points, snared two boards and blocked a shot. Elise Haack finished with three points, four rebounds and three assists. Gracie Knobloch and Frankie Mohni each scored two points and Knobloch notched three assists. Lindsey Van Es added one point.
HMS was 18-of-51 from the floor to finish at 35 percent. The Hawks attempted just five three-point shots and made two. They were 7-of-17 at the foul line. West Sioux shot 45 percent with 27 baskets in 60 tries. The Falcons were 9-of-22 from beyond the arc and 3-of-6 at the line.
The turnover gap was significant. The Hawks committed 21 while West Sioux held its turnover total to eight. HMS outrebounded the Falcons 33-27.
