Okoboji/HMS placed seventh out of 25 teams competing at the Herb Irgens Invitational. The event was held January 20 and 21 at Ida Grove and was hosted by OA/BCIG. The Pioneers compiled 91.5 team points. The winning Don Bosco team amassed 271 points to easily outdistance second place Sergeant-Bluff Luton which scored 216.5.
Top placings for the Pioneers were earned by Tyce Hanson who finished third at 126 pounds and by Noah Strantz who was fourth at 160. James Gellerman, Bryce Dodge and Ethan Wiersma were the HMS athletes wrestling for Okoboji/HMS. Gellerman won three times and lost twice on the way to the 7th Place Match. There he won a 9-1 major decision over Zeb Kleinsmith of Solon. Both Dodge and Wiersma recorded a win by fall but lost their other two matches.
