Mike Van Engen will now participate in the State Legion Oratorical Contest to be held March 8 at Cedar Rapids. He won the District Contest at Cherokee Monday evening.
The flag at the Sanborn post office was flying high Wednesday morning. By Presidential order they were flying at full mast to honor the first Vietnam prisoners of war to be returned to the United States.
Boy Scout Parents Night was held last Wednesday at the Masonic Hall with around 40 in attendance…Bill Luke has volunteered to serve as Assistant Scout Leader…There will be a meeting next Wednesday at city hall for the purpose of organizing a Cub Scout Pack.

William and Veda Bousema will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary February 25. A card shower is requested…They winter in Mesa, AZ.
The Annual Meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held at “R” Place with 86 members present…New Chamber board elected were Bruce Mosier, Teresa Vogelaar, Brad Smith and Sandy Patten.
Rachael Beyer spent Monday and Tuesday with her grandparents, Vernon and Betty Storm. She will report back to Whitman Air Force Base, Missouri for three weeks and then go to Yokata Air Force Base at Fussa, Japan for three years. She is the daughter of the Edward Storms of Sioux City.
