Speed captures three events for HMS boys to three at WEC Meet
The speedsters on Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn’s boys track and field team whisked away wins in three events as the War Eagle Conference held its meet May 1 at Paullina. HMS produced conference champions in the 400 meter dash, the 4×100 relay and the sprint medley relay. Kooper Ebel had solo honors in the 400 and then teamed up with Ryan Borden, Ethan Diehm and James Gellerman for victory in the winning relays.
Those results earned the bulk of the Hawks’ 45 team points as they finished sixth among the 10 team competing. Gehlen Catholic totaled 115 points to claim the conference team title.
Adam Schierholz placed third in the discus and Ebel was fourth in the 200 meter dash. Diehm took fifth in the long jump. Running to sixth-place finishes were Ryan Grotluschen in the 800 meters and George Vargas in the 3200. Grotluschen joined Aiden Espeland, Bryce Dodge and Damian Dodge to take sixth in the 4×800 relay.
