Weather again intrudes as HMS girls compete at Sioux Central Coed Meet
The Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn girls got in one more track and field meet before the State Qualifying Meet. Or more correctly, a good portion of a track and field meet. Bad weather prevented the 4×100 and 4×400 relays from being run at the tail end of the Sioux Central Coed Meet held May 8 at Sioux Rapids.
The Hawks scored 18 points, which put them at the back of pack of 10 teams. The host Rebels won the meet with a 135 total.
Emily Mutombo took fourth in the long jump and fifth in the 200 meter dash. Megan Otto finished sixth in the high jump. Running in the seventh-place sprint medley relay were Moriah Otto, Emily Mutombo, Abby Otto and Jocelyn Abonce.
Individuals placing eighth were Evelyn Steffen in the 400 meters and Jocelyn Abonce in the 800 meters. Two relays were also eighth: the 4×200 of Payton Diehm, Megan Otto, Pamela Mutombo and Steffen as well as the distance medley with Pamela Mutombo, Abby Otto, Frankie Mohni and Kamryn Ebel.
