Hawks walk past George-Little Rock on the road
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn built an 11-0 lead after three innings and went on to a 13-9 win over George-Little Rock May 25 at George. HMS added single runs in the fifth and seventh innings. The Mustangs scored all of their runs in the final three frames.
“The girls played well,” commented Hawk head coach Stephanie Bronstad. “Kamryn (Ebel) started on the mound and was on tonight. We got a great lead and I put in some of my backups to get them some experience. We have a few things to work on but overall played well. The girls have been hitting the ball well, pitching well and staying competitive ‘til the end of the game.”
HMS finished with just five hits but drew 17 walks off of Mustang pitching. Ebel and Eliza Tewes each delivered a two-run double in the five-run second inning. Gracie Knobloch singled home both of the Hawks’ runs in the third frame. Alexis Grover hit an RBI single in the first inning and Kinsey Schirmer singled and scored in the second.
Ebel allowed three runs on two hits. None of the runs were earned. She recorded four strikeouts, two hit batters and one walk. Schirmer came on in relief and surrendered six runs (five earned) on four hits. She struck out six batters, walked three and hit one.
The Hawks were guilty of five errors while George-Little Rock committed two. Even with the large run total, HMS stranded nine runners and the Mustangs left eight on base.
