Miscues costly in Hawks’ loss to Ridge View
The Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Hawks proved to be generous hosts as they entertained Ridge View May 22 at Hartley. HMS outhit the Raptors 8-6 but committed seven errors in a 7-1 loss.
“Tyson (Tessum) pitched well once again,” noted Hawk head coach Jeremy Gloden. “He gave us a chance to win. We just made too many mistakes in big situations that gave them extra opportunities and they capitalized. We will need to clean those up in order to win games like this in the future.”
Tessum tossed 4-2/3 innings and allowed six runs, but only two of them were earned. He gave up six hits, struck out seven batters, walked three and hit two. Tanner Tesch took the next 1-1/3 innings which included an unearned run, a walk and three strikeouts. Evan Eilers got the seventh inning and struck out the side.
HMS scored its run in the first inning. Jacob Cates hit a double and was knocked in by a single from Tanner Tesch. Bradley Van Beek went 3-for-3 at the plate and Tessum was 2-for-4. Trenton Vollink also recorded a hit.
Ridge View was guilty of two errors. Each team left eight men on base.
