Hawks drop conference tilt to Gehlen Catholic
Gehlen Catholic struck for three runs in the second inning and later added some insurance to defeat Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 5-3 June 2 at Le Mars. The result put both teams at 1-1 in the War Eagle Conference.
The Jays left the bases loaded in the first before breaking through in their next turn at bat. “Our pitching started out rocky,” commented HMS head coach Stephanie Bronstad. “We made some changes and went our way then.”
Gehlen out-hit the Hawks 8-6. “They hit the ball well,” said Bronstad. “We hit but didn’t string it together like we needed. Looking forward to our conference games next week.”

Gracie Knobloch took the ball to start the bottom of the third and finished out the game. She yielded two runs (one earned) on three hits while also striking out five.
Eliza Tewes went 2-for-3 at the plate. Knobloch hit a double and had a pair of RBI’s. Abby Kunzman recorded a single and also picked up an RBI on a groundout. Kinsey Schirmer and Frankie Mohni each had one hit.
