Big inning propels Remsen St. Mary’s past HMS
Remsen St. Mary’s scored six times in the second inning en route to an 11-2 War Eagle Conference victory over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn June 12 at Remsen. St. Mary’s, which entered the game with only one loss on the season, outhit HMS 10-4.
“Our bats didn’t come alive like we had hoped,” commented HMS head coach Stephanie Bronstad. “They hit well even though Gracie (Knobloch) pitched well on the mound. We’re still moving people around to fill holes from injuries.”
Knobloch struck out seven in her six innings of work, which included no walks or hit batters. Five of the runs were unearned as the visitors committed three errors.
HMS scored both of its runs in the sixth inning. Morgan Grooters was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a pair of groundouts. Knobloch brought her in with a single. Kamryn Ebel and Delaney Murphy followed with base hits, the second of which plated Knobloch.
Murphy also singled in the fifth inning. HMS left a total of four runners on base while St. Mary’s stranded only two.
