MMCRU adds on late to defeat Hawks
MMCRU scored eight runs over the final four innings to put away Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 14-4 June 23 at Hartley. The Royals led 6-3 prior to the late-inning barrage. With the loss HMS falls to 0-8 in the War Eagle Conference and to 3-14 overall.
Jack Mastbergen led off the Hawks’ three-run third with a single. Trenton Vollink coaxed a one-out walk and the runners advanced on a groundout to second. Tanner Tesch then delivered a two-out, two run single. Following a walk to Jacob Cates, Bradley Van Beek singled to drive in Tesch.
Walks to Tyson Tessum, Tesch and Cates loaded the bases in the fifth. The Royals got an out at home on a ground ball but Blake Meendering followed with an RBI single. HMS had five hits in all. The first was a double by Cates in the second inning. Each team stranded seven runners.
Tesch was the starting and losing pitcher. He went 6-1/3 innings, surrendering 10 runs on nine hits. Just four of the runs were earned. Tesch struck out four batters, walked two and hit one. Trenton Vollink worked 1/3 of an inning and yielded three runs, two of which were earned. There were no hits but three walks and Vollink struck out one batter. The final 1/3 inning went to Aiden Bush. He allowed an unearned run on two hits. The Hawks were guilty of six errors.
