Al Koepp, proprietor of the Pike Cafe, received second and third degree burns on his left leg while working at the cafe Friday…He will be off work about a week.
The Sanborn Model Flying Club was officially opened on August 1. Thirteen boys and girls ranging in age from 8-16 years voted in the officers of the club: Alan Endorf, president, Dennis Ruisch vice president, Lisa Dolphin, secretary and Julie Farnsworth treasurer.

Five school busses in a row at Sanborn Body Shop displayed freshly-painted bright yellow fenders, a new state requirement under state regulation.
At a regular City Council meeting Monday evening Mayor Wilbur Merriam read from the agenda…The City attorney has advanced that Mayor Merriam had submitted his resignation effective September 1, 1973 and he feels this matter should be discussed by the council. The mayor added “If you gentlemen want to discuss it…start right now.” There being no discussion offered at that time, the meeting continued with other business…

Donavon DeJong, a teacher at the Sanborn Christian School, was awarded the 1998 Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year Award for excellence in teaching.
Edith Vanden Berg returned home Thursday after spending three weeks visiting in Japan. She left July 9 on a flight loaded with Japanese exchange students who had lived in the U.S. this past year with host families.
Steve and Anita Goetz, visiting here from Fairbanks, AK, hosted an outdoor Alaska salmon and halibut fish fry at the Ralph Dasen home Thursday evening for friends.

An open house honoring the 90th birthday of Leola Rozeboom will be held August 22 at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church.
Nikki Doorenbos of Orange City and Jennifer Morfitt, daughter of the Jim Morfitts of Sanborn earned a second place trophy for their dance in the 1998 Rivercade Competition in Sioux City recently. The girls performed in the age 8 and under.
St. Andrew’s All You Can Eat Fish Fry and Bake Sale is Sat., August 29, 5-7 p.m.
