The Harris-Lake Park Volleyball Invitational provided Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn with a chance to renew acquaintances with teams they had faced earlier this season. As it turned out, there was no change in the outcomes as the Hawks sandwiched a win over Harris-Lake Park between losses to Rock Valley and George-Little Rock. At the conclusion of the Invite, which was held October 7 at Lake Park, HMS owned a season record of 6-15.
Rock Valley took both sets from the Hawks, winning 21-6 and 21-17. The Rockets went undefeated in the Invite as they had earlier at the HMS Tourney. Eliza Tewes was the most effective hitter for the Hawks, finishing with four kills. Frankie Mohni had six assists. Kinsey Schirmer, Abigail Otto and Tewes each came up with a half-dozen digs. Schirmer was also 7-for-7 serving.
HMS swept the host Wolves by identical 21-10 scores. Kylee Schiphoff was 12-of-14 attacking with nine kills for an efficiency of .500. She also registered a pair of solo blocks. Abby Douma added five kills and Mohni supplied 13 assists. Digs leaders were Lindsey Van Es with five and Tewes with four. Schiphoff served up five aces on 11-of-11 serving.
The Hawks got off to a promising start against the Mustangs, winning the first set 21-14. George-Little Rock evened the match with a 21-15 victory in set two and then captured the deciding set 15-8. A trio of Hawks each notched four kills. The three were Douma, Schiphoff and Moriah Otto. Mohni assisted on all 13 of the team’s kills and made five digs. Van Es, Tewes and Abigail Otto each dug up four Mustang attacks. Schiphoff made a block and assisted Mohni on another. Schiphoff went 8-for-8 serving while Mohni was 12-of-13 with three aces.
