Strong third quarter secures Hawk win over Woodbury Central girls
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn outscored Woodbury Central by twenty points in the third quarter on the way to a 75-50 win over the Wildcats November 30 at Hartley. The Hawk lead was just four points at 27-23 before they erupted after halftime.
Keying the HMS attack were Abby Douma, who scored 21 points, and Kylee Schiphoff, who tallied 20. The Hawks also got 13 points from Moriah Otto, nine from Frankie Mohni, six from Gracie Knobloch, three from Lindsey Van Es, two from Addison Sheeler and one from Hannah Tessum. Knobloch and Van Es each contributed two assists.
HMS owned a 46-24 advantage on the boards. Douma pulled down 10 rebounds while Knobloch and Otto each grabbed nine. Schiphoff made three steals and Mohni swiped the ball twice. Douma rejected four Wildcat shots.
Woodbury Central was limited to 31 percent shooting (17-of-55) while the Hawks were at 43 percent (29-of-68.) HMS hit nine three-point baskets and the Wildcats 10. From the foul line the Hawks were 8-of-22 and Woodbury Central 6-of-17. HMS turned the ball over 16 times while the Wildcats were guilty of 18 miscues.
