Hawk girls find the range to beat Sheldon

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn used a strong second half to draw clear of Sheldon and pick up a 62-41 victory over the Orabs January 11 at Hartley. The game was postponed from January 8 due to the adverse winter weather conditions. With the non-conference win, HMS improved to 7-5 on the season.
The Hawks held a 25-21 lead at intermission. They increased that margin in the third quarter and then outscored Sheldon 21-9 in the final period.
HMS shot 43 percent from the floor, with 21 hoops in 49 tries. The Hawks were on target from beyond the arc, going 8-for-15. Not so much at the foul line where they were 12-of-29. Sheldon was just 11-of-44 from the field for 25 percent. The Orabs connected on five of their 21 trey attempts and were 14-of-29 at the line.
The Hawks got 19 points from Kylee Schiphoff, 13 from Abby Douma, eight from both Gracie Knobloch and Moriah Otto, five from Eliza Tewes, four from Frankie Mohni, three from Kamryn Ebel and two from Lindsey Van Es. Assisting on two baskets each were Knobloch, Tewes and Addy Sheeler.
The 41 HMS rebounds included 11 from Douma, seven from Tewes and six from Otto. Schiphoff was chief thief for the Hawks with six steals. Each team was a little loose with the rock as the Orabs were guilty of 28 turnovers and HMS 26.
Sheldon 10 11 11 9 – 41
HMS 13 12 16 21 – 62
