Scoring inconsistencies hurt Hawk boys against West Sioux
Scoring for Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn took a dip in the middle two quarters and that was enough for the Hawks to come up short against West Sioux 54-43. The War Eagle Conference game was played January 19 at Hawarden. HMS tallied 17 points in the first quarter and 15 in the fourth but only five in the second and six in the third.
Individually for the Hawks, Isaac Schierholz scored 16 points, Lawton Schiphoff 13, Jayden Leth eight and Kolby Douma and Bradley Van Beek three each. Leth, Douma and Zac Pearson each supplied two assists.
HMS made 15 of its 52 shot attempts for 29 percent. The Falcons went 21-for-53 to shoot 40 percent. The Hawks launched 32 shots from beyond the arc, making six. West Sioux was 3-of-14 from long range and 9-of-20 at the foul line. HMS attempted 19 free throws with seven hitting the mark.
George Vargas collected seven rebounds and Schierholz six. Schiphoff made two steals and Van Beek and Schierholz each blocked a shot. The turnover totals showed 12 for the Hawks and 15 for West Sioux.
