Hawk boys end the week with loss to MMCRU


MMCRU improved to 4-1 in the War Eagle Conference with a 59-35 win over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn January 20 at Hartley. The game was postponed from January 12 due to the winter weather. With the loss, HMS drops to 0-7 in conference play and 0-13 on the season.
The shooting stats showed the Hawks at 21 percent (10-of-48) and MMCRU at 40 percent (25-of-62). From three-point land at was HMS going 6-for-21 and the Royals 2-for-10. The Hawks sank nine of 20 free throw attempts while MMCRU went 7-for-13 at the line.
Lawton Schiphoff and Isaac Schierholz each scored 13 points. Jayden Leth and Brody Meendering notched three apiece with George Vargas adding two points and Zac Pearson one. Vargas and Schierholz each assisted on two baskets.
Schierholz brought down 10 rebounds, Vargas eight, Leth six and Schiphoff five. The 10 steals included four by Vargas and three by Schiphoff. HMS turned the ball over 19 times while the Royals were guilty of 14 turnovers.
