HMS Boys second at Le Mars Bowling Invite
The HMS Boys traveled to Le Mars January 27 to participate in the Le Mars Bowling Invitational. They competed against seven other schools: Le Mars, Sioux Central, West Sioux, MMCRU, Lewis Central, Harlan and OABCIG.
“HMS was paired on the same lanes as Le Mars boys team,” noted Hawk coach Julia Meyer. “The Hawks started off great with individual games averaging over 185, and we were in a good position with pin total to be in contention for a win or medal place. Our Baker games had their ups and downs, but the boys toughed it out and kept some good scores to finish up the day and win 2nd place with 2741 total pins. Le Mars topped out the tournament with 2983 pin total, third was only five pins behind the Hawks. We can see how the spare shooting and getting the most pins in each frame, is so important.”
You can’t have a good team performance without the individual contributions. “Congratulations to Eli Mastbergen,” offered Meyer. “He received a medal for All Tournament Team being one of the top six in scoring with a 390 series and games of 182 and 208. There were also good games from the rest of the HMS boys.”
Jack Mastbergen rolled a 389 series followed by Damian Dodge with a 382, Riley Russell with a 364, Graham Lux with a 354 and Caleb Aaron with a 343. The Baker Games scores were 153, 226, 131, 178 and 174 to total 862.
“The girls from HMS did not compete, yet there was a girls tournament with the other schools,” noted Meyer. “There was nearly a 300 game bowled by a Le Mars girl ending with a 290! What amazing talent our high school players, both girls and boys, have in our school and this area!”
Wrapping up the day, Meyer commented, “This tournament was a good experience for the upcoming district tournament in February in Sanborn at Locomotion Lanes where we will be competing against another five or six teams to get the opportunity to go bowl at State Tournament. Thank you for the support of family and fans, Locomotion Lanes and the newspapers. We appreciate it!”
