Two Hawk girls advance from Regional Golf Tourney

The season continues for Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn’s two veteran golfers. Kinsey Schirmer and Gracie Knobloch are among the individuals advancing from the girls Class 1A Region 1B Golf Tourney played May 10 at Aurelia Golf Club.
The top six individuals, plus ties, moved on to the Region 1 Final May 15 at Lake Creek Golf Course in Storm Lake. Senior golfer Schirmer shot 46 on the first nine and 47 on the second for a total of 93, fourth-best at the tourney. Knobloch, a junior, carded two rounds of 48 for the fifth-best total of 96. Freshman Ava Dolphin also golfed for HMS and her rounds were 62 and 58 for a 120 total.
“Both Gracie and Kinsey will be moving on,” noted their coach, Cheryl Kroese. “Super proud of them both. Kinsey scored her lowest round of the year, great time to put up that kind of a score! Gracie continues to play consistent golf, putting herself in contention today to be able to move on. These were also Ava’s best rounds of the year so I’m very proud of her for her efforts today.”
The top teams at the Tourney were Alta-Aurelia with a 385 and Kingsley-Pierson with a 397. Both advance to the Regional Final. Because one of those advancing was the host team, the third place team also moves on. In this case it is MMCRU, which posted a 425 total.
The Class 1A State Tournament is scheduled for May 23-24 at American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.
