Royals double their pleasure in win over HMS

MMCRU jumped on Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn early, scoring four runs in each of the first two innings, and went on to defeat the Hawks 11-1 in five innings June 21 at Marcus. The loss dropped HMS to 0-7 in War Eagle Conference play and to 2-14 overall.
The Royals had the bats going in the first inning, clubbing a two-run homer and a two-run double. It was a different story in the second. There was an RBI infield single but then a two-base error and a second error that allowed the final run of the inning to come home. The bats were back at it in the fourth as MMCRU tallied three times. The first run scored on a double and the second on a groundout. The final run was the result of a wild pitch.
The Hawks scored their run in the third inning. Brody Meendering and Jack Mastbergen each drew walks. Lawton Schiphoff then blooped a single to left to score Meendering. The other four HMS hits were a double by Mastbergen and singles by Ricky Smith, Grant Kunzman and Brody Meendering.
Starting pitcher Schiphoff went one inning, yielding four earned runs on four hits. He walked two batters, struck out one and hit one. Caden Douma tossed three innings of relief. He allowed seven runs on four hits. Five of the runs were earned. Douma walked four batters and struck out one. The Hawks were guilty of three errors.
