Intense Hawks pocket WEC victory over Trinity Christian 8-2

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn lost the shutout in the sixth inning but still did more than enough to come away with an 8-2 War Eagle Conference victory over Trinity Christian June 26 at Hartley.
“Girls are coming around with the bats,” noted Hawk head coach Stephanie Bronstad. “The intensity was high through the whole game. We did well on the mound but need to continue to minimize pitches. These girls have great potential and need to bring it every pitch, at bat, inning and game!
Gracie Knobloch earned the complete game victory. The Tigers’ two-run sixth began with a pair of walks which came around to score. Knobloch struck out six and walked six while allowing just three hits. The Hawks committed only one error.
HMS scored a pair of runs in the second. With one out Lindsey Van Es and Abby Otto each drew a walk. A sacrifice from Delaney Murphy advanced the runners and Frankie Mohni drove both home with a base hit.
Four unearned runs in the fourth put the Hawks up 6-0. With one out Mohni singled and Kamryn Ebel reached on an error. Addy Sheeler walked to load the bases. Knobloch’s groundout scored Mohni before Eliza Tewes delivered a two-run single. Schirmer singled to plate the final run of the inning.
HMS answered Trinity with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Knobloch led things off with a base hit and Eliza Tewes walked. Van Es drove both home with a double.
The Hawks left nine runners on base while Trinity stranded seven.
Mohni was the only HMS batter with multiple hits as she went 3-for-3. Hawks with one hit apiece were Ebel, Knobloch, Tewes, Schirmer, Van Es and Natalie Daggett.
