Hawks are off and running on the cross country season

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn got the cross country season underway August 30 in competition at the Deb Hankens Cross Country Meet. The meet, which was held at Cherokee Golf & Country Club, was run a day later than scheduled due to inclement weather.
The varsity and JV girls were grouped together for the first race. The second race combined the JV and varsity boys.
The four fastest Hawk runners in the boys race finished within 10 seconds of each other. Damian Dodge placed 12th, Aiden Bush was 14th, Easton Teal finished 15th and Ryan Grotluschen was 17th. Also finishing together were James Carlin in 28th place and Blaine Finster in 29th. Carter Dolphin rounded out the varsity contingent with a 41st-place finish.
HMS scored 87 team points to finish fourth behind Cherokee (56 points), MVAOCOU (57) and Ridge View (64).
Three HMS boys competed at the JV level. Simone Dellavedova was fifth, Karter Zimmer 13th and Moises Gonzalez 23rd.
In the girls race, Kamryn Ebel finished 22nd and Gracie Knobloch placed 32nd. Brooklyn Erickson was 25th among the JV competitors.
Cherokee earned a score of 40 to win the girls team title by one point over Alta-Aurelia.
